Premium posts on Plumaden are paid for from your own Algorand wallet — there's no card on file and no account top-up. If you've never held crypto, this guide gets you from zero to a funded wallet so you can unlock content. You keep custody of your funds the whole time.
Before you start: how much to fund
This is the step that trips people up, so read it first. Two small Algorand rules mean you must fund a little more than the post's sticker price:
- Account minimum balance — 0.1 ALGO. Every Algorand account must hold at least 0.1 ALGO that stays locked in the account. You can't spend it, so it doesn't count toward a purchase.
- Network fee — 0.001 ALGO per transaction. Each payment costs a flat 0.001 ALGO network fee, paid in ALGO on top of the price — even when you pay in another currency like USDC.
So budget roughly:
amount to fund = post price + 0.001 (network fee) + 0.1 (locked reserve)
For example, to unlock a post priced at 2 ALGO, fund at least 2 + 0.001 + 0.1 ≈ 2.101 ALGO — and rounding up to 2.2 or more is safer.
Paying in a non-ALGO currency? Holding any Algorand Standard Asset (USDC, goBTC, and the rest) requires a one-time, free "opt-in" for that asset, which raises your account minimum balance by another 0.1 ALGO per asset. You also still need a little ALGO on hand to cover the network fee. If you're not sure, the simplest first purchase is to just hold ALGO and pay in ALGO.
Tip: when in doubt, keep about 0.3–0.5 ALGO spare beyond the price. That comfortably covers the reserve, the fee, and any opt-in, so your first purchase doesn't fail for being a few thousandths short.
Option A: Buy ALGO inside Pera Wallet (card)
Pera Wallet is a popular Algorand wallet for phones and browsers, and it can sell you ALGO directly with a credit or debit card (through built-in on-ramp partners). This is usually the fastest path for a first-time buyer.
- Install Pera Wallet from your phone's app store (or use the web wallet).
- Create a new wallet and back up your recovery phrase somewhere safe and offline. Anyone with that phrase controls your funds.
- Use Pera's in-app Buy option to purchase ALGO with a card. Availability, limits, and identity (KYC) checks vary by country and provider.
- The ALGO lands in the same wallet — you're funded and ready to pay.
Option B: Buy on an exchange, then withdraw
If you'd rather use a centralized exchange (such as Coinbase or another major one), you buy ALGO there and then withdraw it to your own wallet.
- Create and verify an account on the exchange, then buy ALGO.
- In your wallet (e.g. Pera), copy your Algorand address — it's 58 characters long.
- On the exchange, choose withdraw / send ALGO and select the Algorand network — sending on the wrong network can lose the funds.
- Paste your exact address, double-check it, and send. The exchange charges its own withdrawal fee, separate from Algorand's network fee.
Which currency should I pay in?
Plumaden accepts these currencies for premium unlocks:
- ALGO — Algorand
- USDC — USD Coin RECOMMENDED
USDC is the easiest choice for most buyers: it's pegged to the US dollar, so the price you see is the price you pay, with no crypto price swings. Whichever you choose, keep a small amount of ALGO in the wallet too — it's needed for the network fee and any one-time asset opt-in. The platform fee (10.0%) is already included in the price; it comes out of the creator's side, not added on top of yours.
How paying works once you're funded
When you open a premium post's unlock page, Plumaden shows a payment QR code and one-tap buttons for Pera and Defly. To pay:
- Scan the QR code, or tap the Pera / Defly button to open your wallet with the payment pre-filled.
- Confirm and send the transaction from your wallet — make sure the included memo/note stays attached so we can match your payment.
- Plumaden detects the on-chain payment automatically (usually within a few seconds) and unlocks the post.
There's nothing to "connect" — you're never asked to link your wallet or share your recovery phrase. You simply send a normal payment, and we watch the chain for it.
Still stuck?
If a payment is taking longer than expected, leave the unlock page open — it keeps checking — or use the "I already paid — check now" button there. If you funded exactly the price and the transaction failed, re-read how much to fund above: you likely need a little more ALGO for the reserve and fee.
